Regional Director Nelson P. Honrado spearheads the conduct of sampling and analysis of refrigerants on ozone depleting substances (ODS) retailers and air-conditioning service providers on June 1 – 3, 2022.  Sampling and analysis were conducted with the use of the multi-refrigerant identifier equipment.  The said equipment is used to verify the authenticity of the chemical composition of refrigerants being sold to local markets within the region.

The Philippines is a signatory to the Montereal Protocol on September 14, 1988 and ratified it on March 21, 1991 with a commitment to phase-out its consumption of all ODS according to the agreed timetable for Article 5 or developing countries.  As part of the country’s full compliance to the Montreal Protocol, DENR – EMB has been charges with issuance of clearance of all ODS importations.

The activity was conducted as part of the Celebration of the Philippine Environment Month with the theme: “Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo” – #OnlyOneEarth.  The activity is in support to the monitoring and enforcement of ODS Phase-Out activities and as part of our compliance to the Implementation of the Philippines ODS Phase-Out program.

A total of ten (10) retailers and air-conditioning service providers were sampled and monitored – two (2) in Nueva Vizcaya, four (4) in Isabela and four (4) in Cagayan.
