The Local Government Unit of Amulung in the Province of Cagayan marks the inauguration of the Sanitary Landfill Facility (SLF) located at Barangay Marobbob on Monday, November 8, 2021, for improved solid waste management in the municipality in compliance with provisions of Republic Act 9003.

Sanitary landfills are engineered facilities designed to have the capability as a final disposal site safely containing wastes and retaining the leachate from seeping out and polluting the surrounding environment. The facility aims to improve service provision at the different stages of solid waste management and ensures active involvement of local communities through the importance of waste segregation at source.

EMB Regional Director, Nelson Honrado and Mayor Elpidio R. Rendon led the inauguration and was attended by LGU key officials, environment officials, and community stakeholders.

Improper management of solid waste is one of the leading causes for degradation of natural resources, including soil, air, and water pollution and the destruction of natural habitat and the loss of biodiversity.
