Pursuant to Republic Act 8749 also known as Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) under the Ambient Monitoring and Technical Services Section of the Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division is mandated to conduct ambient air quality sampling as part of the Bureau’s continuing air quality management program through assessment of pollutants level by measuring the quality of air atmosphere to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

In line with this, EMB R02 has established three (3) monitoring stations as follows; EMB Regional Office at the Regional Government Center, Carig and St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) Campus, and recently added Buntun Elementary School (BES) all located within Tuguegarao City. Said stations were selected in accordance with the siting requirements and objectives through US EPA CFR 40 part 58 Standard.

Based on the results, it showed that the 24-hour sampling conducted for Total Suspended Particulates (TSP) monitoring in EMB and SPUP stations are within the threshold of Good level (0-80 ug/Ncm) as provided in Annex A, Air Quality Indices (AQI) of RA 8749.
